The mezuzah line is the first of many contemporary Judaica products they’ll be rolling out in the coming years.

I’m excited to show you these gorgeous, modern mezuzahs and thrilled to have had the opportunity to chat with Daniela and Gabriela.

After leaving our native Venezuela, we each got married and moved to sunny Miami, Florida to begin the process of building a modern Jewish home.

We wanted to create a modern line of Judaic products to satisfy the younger generation’s modern tastes. Our products are designed for the contemporary modern family who chooses to celebrate traditions their way, like our families do. We decided to start the line with mezuzahs because of their broad reach into numerous Jewish homes and doorposts. The mezuzahs are available in a variety of vibrant colors, each handcrafted and made out of acrylic so that the mezuzah scroll housed inside is always visible.

We plan to continue introducing new modern Judaic products over time. Our goal is to encourage more people to keep Jewish traditions in a very stylish and creative way.

We also wanted to honor our family last name, “Apeloig,” which has been passed down from generation to generation. Our grandfather, the only member of our family to survive the holocaust, passed the name down to his daughter and our father, who later had three daughters but no sons who would pass on the family name. Just as we have found creative new ways to honor our Jewish traditions, we have found a creative way to pass on our heritage through the family name. That is how “Apeloig” collection was born.

Tell me about yourselves.

We are from Caracas, Venezuela. We were raised in a conservative Jewish community. Gabriela studied, worked and lived in Los Angeles for eight years, and Daniela studied in Miami and New York, where she lived and worked for five years. We both live now in Miami, Florida.

We both hold degrees in business administration with an emphasis in marketing. Gabriela has a background in the food industry, where she did business and marketing, and Daniela has a background in the fashion industry, where she also did digital marketing.

We both have a strong sense of design since art is in our genes. We have a strong sense of what we like and dislike when it comes to designing the products and branding. We have similar tastes, but we also have our differences, which is good because the results are always well balanced. We hire the best designers who can interpret and translate what we are looking for.

What’s next for Apeloig Collection?

The mezuzahs have been very popular and widely accepted. Customers have asked for more colors and sizes, so we are soon introducing the mezuzahs in a new size and in more colors.

Our next Judaic product is a challah board. We chose to introduce this product next because we believe that in the Judaic market there are very few modern options. Also, the challah board is something that is used by many Jewish families who gather around every Friday night, and we want to bring a touch of modern style to that ritual. The design will be along the same lines of the mezuzah. It has been a very challenging process from design to production. We have been very meticulous and want it to be as perfect as possible! For us it is very important that it not only looks modern but is also functional and at the same time complies with the laws of the “halacha” (religious laws). We are very excited about the introduction of this new item!

We plan to introduce other Judaic products along the road. A Passover plate, a menorah and Shabbat candleholders are some of the products in our plans.

We wanted to start small to test the market in our local Miami community, but we soon reached customers in New York and international markets like Peru, Venezuela, Canada, Panama and even Hong Kong, and we are still growing. We’ve had such an incredible turnaround that we have not been able to keep up with sales. We’ve recently launched our online store: Apeloig Collection.

Thank you Daniela and Gabriela for taking the time to share your stories and your beautiful collection of mezuzahs with us!

Breathtaking! Modern twist on traditional objects to have throughout the house. I’m biased towards the bright orange and deep blue ones!
