Less is definitely more for Galit Barak.
She designs jewelry that’s clean, stylish and minimal. I’m excited to introduce you to her beautiful line of necklaces, rings and bracelets.
Galit is inspired by nature, urban landscapes and geometric shapes. All her jewelry is made by hand in her studio in Israel. Her work has been exhibited in China, Brazil and Israel and recently her project Don’t Cast Me Away was featured in Design Milk.
What inspired you to design jewelry? Were you always artistic?
I have created for as long as I can remember in various medias and forms. I am strongly attracted to the small details and aesthetic possibilities in the jewelry field. In my designs, I strive to innovate within the jewelry discipline, stretching the boundaries and creating unfamiliar layouts. Mechanisms and kinetic movement are a source of inspiration for my work, along with my love for architecture, structures and geometric shapes. In my work I integrate the creation of custom jewelry along with contemporary jewelry exhibits worldwide.
Where did you go to school?
I studied jewelry design in the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design based in Ramat Gan.
I’d love to hear more about the inspiration behind your forms.
For me these abstract shapes are forms that simplify crystals and rocks. I found myself exploring these shapes while studying as well as working a lot with rough, uncut stones. I like how these forms are minimalist, bold and plain but also hold a movement within the angles.
Can you tell me a little bit about your process?
I love how quick the process can be, from having my first idea to the first prototype. I usually don’t sketch much and work straight away and develop my work through the making. I love the fact the jewelry is a wearable art, and how people have immediate response to it, they often can’t stop themselves from trying on a piece or wondering about the process and inspiration of my work.
Where are you from?
I was born in Israel, raised in a small town halfway between Tel Aviv and Haifa called Pardes Hannah Karkur. It is a quiet, green town with a nice community and environment.
Where can we buy your jewelry?
I ship worldwide. You can shop FORMA jewelry in the online shop http://the-forma.com or the Etsy shop http://theforma.etsy.com.
