I love the intricately cut map work of Dan Linden, Virgis Trakimavicius, Karen O’ Leary and Talia Sari Wiener.
Dan Linden started making his custom-made laser-cut city road maps after designing a map of his beloved city, Columbus, Ohio. Dan realized there were many people like him attached to the cities in which they live, and thus his business was born.
Virgis Trakimavicius is a Lithuanian artist, graphic designer and professor. His hand-cut city maps evoke memories of past travels, a likeable street, and everything involving the city that he has visited or intends to visit in the future.
Karen O’Leary’s modern maps are collected and treasured by many for the memories and stories they tell. They become heirlooms.
Talia Sari is a Tel Aviv-based jewelry collection created by Talia Sari Wiener. She incorporates advanced technology with traditional handcraft to create minimalist pieces of jewelry with a story behind every design. Her city necklaces and brooches reflect memories from loved places around the world.

This time of year, as I sit in synagogue, I think of my friends, my family and my community. I think of home—of the beautiful city where I live. I think about all the other places and cities in which I’ve lived and spent time, each one a part of a journey that helped me get to where I am today.
What places and cities hold cherished memories for you?

They are so thoroughly abstracted that I imagine wearing one of them is like wearing a code- only the wearer and those she has shared precious experiences with know what these beautiful abstractions signify.
